New Website Offers Career Info for High School Students, Parents
As evident from this section from Manufacturing in the Kansas City Metro, the region offers a number of outstanding manufacturing careers. Clay County and the Northland are among the region's leaders in advanced manufacturing and similar fields such as healthcare and IT.
The Northland has a new website designed for high school students and their parents who want to explore area career opportunities that do not require a college degree: Careers of the Northland (careersofthenorthland.com).
Created by students of the Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies, the website is designed by students for students. It’s purpose is to give visitors a place where they can learn about jobs and career opportunities here in the Northland.
One key to the site is its focus on new and developing careers available to students who chose not to attend college, who prefer hands on and creative work or who want to start earning immediately.
The site emphasizes emerging opportunities in cutting edge industries such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare and information technology industries that utilize technologies like robotics and computer controls as well as offering impressive earnings opportunities.
The site includes an interactive map of local businesses, videos, interview advice and more. Still under development, the map will provide links to local businesses that offer careers in these fields in the Northland (advanced manufacturing companies are already available; healthcare and IT firms will be added). The map listings include contact information so the students can get more information.
There are also testimonials from business owners and business leaders, advice on interviewing, including how to dress for an interview and some other basics that younger students often need.
The new website is available at www.careersofthenorthland.com.
